Sunday Salutations: Spring Cleaning and Hamming It Up in the Ring
The final video of Dante's three Beginner Novice runs. (It looks more like it should be his first.) Plus, another 50-word story with a picture inspiration. And, what to do with a monstrous in-box?
It has been a long, yet somehow short, year. I feel like I’m months behind because I just started “spring cleaning” and rose trimming - both of which should be early-spring endeavors. Since it is almost fall, that probably tells you all you need to know about how topsy-turvy my world has become.
On a brighter note, I’ve been cleaning up my email inbox (my personal one, at least; the work one is still in desperate need of attention). The back roses are trimmed, the front ones are still wild and unruly. The kitchen is clean, and I have a pile of clutter that I now need to organize - or find a large enough rug to sweep it under. I jest… mostly. Although it is tempting. (There are no rugs in our house. -Tod)
Other than that, it’s summer in Houston, which means life is lived mostly indoors. Walking outside feels like baking in an oven with a water bath steaming you until you’re plump and flushed. But I, for one, have no desire to be a custard.
Although, the thought does make me want to make cheesecake, for all the dealing with water baths when baking make me nervous. It is easy to mess up the cheesecake, if you actually place the baking container inside the water bath. Instead, I just place the water bath on the shelf below, so it is more like steaming… Is there a different term for that? I am not sure - but if you know one, please tell me.
Anyway, I wanted to show off Dante’s last Beginner Novice run and say that I have yet to see him be so much like a jumping bean. There are a few dogs that can heel like they have springs in their feet, but he sure showed me that he has jumping power. I am going to have to get in good enough shape to take him for a run before we face the ring next time. Enjoy!

50 Word Throwback
One of the best series Raconteur Press via The Three Mom’s of the Apocalypse did was their “Postcard” series. We each got a different, random picture that we then wrote a fifty word story (no more, no less). Here, we’ve redone pictures similar to what The Three Mom’s used. To see the originals, buy the hardback books here https://amazon.com/author/casasent.
This story first appeared in Postcards from Imaginarium.
Fading Light
"Summon a binder," Zahar yelled, "The lantern fades! We'll die!"
"No time!" Aaron turned the binding blaster on Zahar.
Aaron worked quickly, "Slice by slice."
Trapped! Zahar's screams turned silent. Her single spark illuminated the whole workshop.
"A new soul to feed the lantern," Aaron whispered.
Zahar's soul slowly burned.
Chaos Tip of the Week
Keep on top of your email in-basket. And if the email has been there more than a year or five, just delete it. Enlisting your favorite computer-savvy Puppy-Cat to help is always an option too.
Chaos Question of the Week
If your email inbox were a creature, what would it look like? Is it a tame pup ready to roll over for belly rubs, or a roaring beast that is just as likely to slash your hand as to purr?
