Sunday Salutations for Father’s Day!
Father’s Day Thank You
First, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, substitute-dads, and pseudo-dads out there. And because they are often forgotten all the other good male role models and figures in your life! Thank a Male today.
I have had a lot of great male role models in my life, both personal and professional that have helped me on the way. I am grateful to each and every one of them, and I try to tell them so and help out others on their career paths. I even dedicated my thesis to one father figure as “my science-father, you know who you are”. It was fun because I actually had another professor who was very influential, and I still work with on occasion, who guessed who my science-father was. I was glad that others would be able to guess from just a few lines who I was talking about, because it reflected and continued to reflect our relationship.
I am also very thankful to my husband and co-author in life, Tod. He helped me try out multiple different headsets for dictation, helped me fix my computer when it wasn’t working, and managed to handle all the paperwork that seems to make modern life happen. (I handle enough paperwork at work. I hide from it at home.) He also reminded me not to call or check in at work every day of our vacation, and also let me spend most of that vacation writing. Thanks Tod love, you are awesome!
Sunday Salutations Recap
We finished the first draft of the novel! Woot! Yay!
This week has been crazy busy. Even though we are on vacation — or stay-cation, a term which I HATE. However, it fits in that we stayed at home, cooked, cleaned, and wrote. And I wrote a LOT. Most weeks I managed to write a bit under a thousand words on the days I write, but I almost never can write every day, hence lower averages. I am working to find a balance where I can write as much as possible and am determining what works for me. This week was amazing, and tiring, but also showed me what I could do when, in a decade or two, I can write full time. Although, zero-word days might still be a thing, as you have to edit sometime.
My next Sunday blog post will likely be going over what the breakdown for writing during vacation week looked like compared to normal weeks. I am curious how these statistics will change as I add dictating more and more into my workflow.
However Happy Father’s Day and don’t forget to thank all the men in your life. (Especially the ones that let your dog swim in their pool and be dried on their patio.)
