Sunday Salutations and Prairie Puppies
This weekend has been both busy and relaxing. We walked to see the prairie puppies (aka horses) that live up the street. My sister graced us with her presence. I think we will have to use the horses to lure her out more often. I have always liked horses, but over the years I have become more and more dog crazy, so usually we make our walks around our neighborhood a pet-the-puppies expedition. What is everyone’s favorite animal (or pet)?
Our Malta story – “The Peace of Il-Maqluba” – is coming out soon. I believe next Friday The Falcons of Malta anthology by RP is released. (Woot!) Both, Tod and I really like this story. It is a one off and not set in any of the universes we currently planned to expand. However, we are super excited to see it in print.
We got the certificate for our first real rejection from the Writers of the Future Contest. We were hoping for the level of rejection where they give you feedback — which is basically the level between what we got (silver honorable mention) and finalists. However, this level came with a spiffy certificate, if you want see it.
We are expanding the Writers of the Future story into a full novel. We are at just under 70K words. My goal is that my rough draft will be done at the end of next month. Then Tod and I will take turns editing and flushing out parts and making sure there isn’t anything that makes either of us go “Oh, no! Not that!”. It is moving along, slow and steady. This week my current average per day is about one thousand words, which is nice and I hope to keep that pace.
Other than that we have been doing lots of little things. I am currently working on creating an egg-less lemon bars recipe. The first version was tasty, but needed to be chilled to set and isn’t set at room temperatures… So off the the recipe board. (The crust was incredible! And the filling was awesomely tasty! ~Tod)
Happy Sunday, everyone and remember to pet all the puppies!
