Sunday Salutations and Barbaric!
This weekend was strange for writing. I did work on the novel, but would not like to report a word count. Mostly because the work involved re-outlining, determining a family genealogy, how their hereditary magic worked, and general dramatics of said dynastic family.
Hey, it seemed important!
While it did not result immediately in huge amounts of new word count, now I have a much firmer picture in my mind. This means that, hopefully, these new lanterns I have staked down will hold up to the storms of creative chaos that is writing.
Other than that, this weekend was mostly a social weekend. We did an RPG play test for Barbaric! Second Edition (from Stellagama) with our normal RPG group — except one of the players ran it. The GM ran a grim, survival game that he admitted was designed for a Total Party Kill (TPK). He was successful in this, possibly a lot faster than one would expect. I am not going to say I started the spiral, but… My character was technically the first one to die. It was still fun, and a blast to play.
Stellagamma is doing a Kickstarter for Barbaric! 2nd Edition starting July 1, 2023. Barbaric! 2nd Edition is a 2d6-based sword & sorcery role-playing game. Think classic Conan with sorcery being slow and dangerous but where death is easier to find. The rules will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike v4.0 license. The rules are based on the Quantum Engine and compatible with other Quantum Engine games!
The system is similar to Traveller but greatly simplified. Rolls are 2d6 plus a skill against a target number. Armor reduces damage. There are only 6 skills in the game and you cannot (sadly) die during character generation.
Other than that, we went to a friend’s Sunday for lunch. They were wonderful and made food I could eat on my crazy elimination diet. We chatted about different RPGs, novels, and all sorts of things. And I was provided with an outfit for the cons. I might have to take a picture and post it. I must say pistachio encrusted lamb grilled outdoors for Sunday lunch is wonderful! (All four paws up!)
Also, I made some vegan, gluten free, peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and took them to the friend’s. I will post the recipe, maybe later this week. We will see.
Hope everyone’s Sunday is going as well. I am socialized out and will now go hide, do computer work, and maybe write a few hundred words of nonsense.
Chaos!
